Becoming Wet On The 4th And Improving Weekend Weather

It looks like a slow moving cold front and moisture from hurricane Arthur will be put a damper on our fourth festivities.   Aurthur was just upgraded to a cat two hurricane near the outer banks of the Carolina’s tonight.  At the same time a cold front is approaching from the west.

While Arthur is going to miss our area “wide right”, some of the moisture associated with the storm will become entrained into the trough and arrive in our area during the course of the day Friday into Friday night.   There should be some dry hours during the morning, but the afternoon, evening, and nighttime hours look fairly wet in Vacationland.

Many communities have postponed their fireworks displays from Friday night to Saturday. That’s a good thing based on today’s forecast as rain should be with us into the nighttime hours. Some heavy bands are possible and the potential exits for a few inches of rain through the overnight.

Any left over early morning rain Saturday will move out.  Skies should clear with lower humidity and comfortable temperatures returning during the afternoon. If you’re spending any time along Maine’s coast this weekend, it’s important to be mindful of the surf and possible dangerous rip currents developing as Arthur tracks hundreds of miles off shore.  The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Advisory from 8:00 AM through 4:00 PM Saturday with waves expected to be between 4′ and 8′.

If you plan on taking in some of the Saturday night fireworks displays across the area, I think you’ll like the forecast.  Temperatures will be falling into the 60s with clear skies and low humidity for a change.
