Waiting For The Perfect Pitch

“When are we going to get some snow dad?” That’s a question my eight year old asked me over breakfast last weekend.  My analogy drew some rolling eyes, but I think they got the point. I said… “Think baseball. Winter is on deck, and about to step up to the plate later this week.”

The first few pitches might be just outside of the strike zone, but the pitcher will be firing them right in.

This one for example is expected to miss east, but perhaps catch the edge of the plate and graze Coastal Maine with a round of snow showers or light snow Saturday.  It is worth mentioning there is some reliable computer model guidance still suggesting the weekend storm would be more than a graze, therefore it needs to be monitored in the coming days.

Eventually with a pattern like this with a deep East Coast trough, and ridge in the west, we’re bound to get a strike right down the middle.

In fact, I don’t see how we get out of a pattern like this without seeing a significant storm putting snow on the ground for most of the state.  The time frame I’m watching is Tuesday night through Wednesday of next week.  It’s a long way out, but the ingredients are there for the first storm of the winter season.  Most modeling a little over a week out is looking that way.

“Please pass the syrup, where did everyone go?”
